Call to Artists

Our next Piedmont UU Church art exhibition is different than the usual theme driven show. Or maybe we should call it “From the collection of...” Exhibition.

This time we are asking that you share the art that you have collected: Prints, paintings, drawings, etc., what can be hung on the wall in a traditional fashion.

As usual, the take in of artwork and hanging of the new show will be a Saturday, April 15from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  All members of the congregation are invited to participate but leave your Picassos, Degas, Jackson Pollock at home since this is an uninsured show.

For Details about participating, please contact: Pierre Fraser (pierrefraser1@roadrunner.com), Michelle Murphy (michelsea@carolina.rr.com), or Stanley Burford (lbrfrd@yahoo.com).

Lake Norman Yard Sale

Greetings Friends,
In an effort to contribute to our operating budget, the Board of Lake Norman Gathering invites you to participate in an upcoming yard sale on Saturday, April 22, in Huntersville.

This is Rev. Amy's neighborhood yard sale, and she has agreed to include items from Lake Norman that morning. The money will be used towards the budget deficit. For more information or to volunteer, please contact our Yard Sale Co-ordinator, Linda Heydenburg at 980-231-5541 or forestburghhotch@earthlink.net.

If you have a large volume of items, please consider giving some to the Yard Sale being hosted at the University Gathering in June.

Adult RE-Course: Being Fully Human

Adult RE Course--Being Fully Human Workshop
April 23rd at the University Gathering, after the service
Becoming Fully Human, or living adequately with your imminent death. I will review main ideas from five writers in philosophy, psychology and religion to provide the framework for a discussion about death. Un-surprisingly, developing good character and wisdom is a great defense against fear - so how do we get character and wisdom? There will not be time for a "full discussion" of such a topic, but each participant can leave the room having shared personal thoughts and gathered ideas for further reading, meditation and discussion. I will provide a handout with a talk outline and a list of sources for the information.

Course leader Rich is retired in Charlotte after 40 years in education and training for government employees and supervisors. He has written curriculum, been a performance coach and classroom instructor, and administered large training programs. He's also given public service courses in parenting, values and personal growth, as well as ledSunday School studies in theology and religious beliefs. Rich holds a BS in Mathematics, an MS in Counseling and Human Development, and a Practitioner's Certificate from a national Social Psychology association. Website Home

This I Believe

This I Believe

The program "This I Believe" has been a popular way for people to write and share core values that guide their daily lives or illuminate some important aspect of living. Over the years, it has been used successfully within many UU congregations. We at the Lake Norman Gathering offered a few of these last fall from members and we would like to offer this opportunity to others. "This I Believe" is a great way to share what you think about a topic small or great. If you are interested, please contact Marilin Campbell, Worship Coordinator on the LKN Steering Team at mcampbell9955@gmail.com. Help putting things together for the service is provided--no worries!

Circle Dinners

Circle Dinners are back! Please sign up at the back table if you would like to host or be a guest at a dinner. The idea behind this is to get to know each other. The host makes the main dish and guests bring the sides. You may attend as many dinners as you would like and do not have to host to be a guest. Please try to attend where you do not know other people. If you have questions, contact Grace Bouchoucha for more information.

share?  Please see Theresa Woody.

Congregational Vote, August 28th

We will be voting on the future of our congregation August 28th after service. The vote will consist of the option to remain an independent fellowship (A 'No' vote) or join with Piedmont UU and become a gathering of their congregation (A 'Yes' vote). The board has put out extensive information on this subject, but there will be a meeting before the official vote to go over our options once more.

If you are not able to come to the meeting to vote on this very important issue, please email Nicole Gantz  (nlackdavi@gmail.com) to vote in absentia. You can simply vote Yes (become a gathering of Piedmont) or No (remain independent.) Please send your electronic votes to Nicole by Saturday August 27th, before 6 PM.

PLease review the Into Our Future document that recaps the events of this year before voting. You can find that in the document here.
